Inspirations For Magazine Advertisement

Stone Roses Album Magazine Advert

This was my favourite album magazine advert, particularly the background, which is has a paint splatter effect. This I feel would be again in keeping with the theme of the music promo video, however I feel the colour theme used here to be rather dull and faded. The colour theme we would like to use instead, would consist of bright neon colours, which furthermore would allow the vintage, pale and faded album cover to stand out more and catch the readers eye on the magazine page. The stone roses logo, I would replace with and image of our CD cover, as placed in the centre of the page, the image will gain more attention.

Santigold Lights Out Album Magazine Advert

I chose this magazine advertisement particularly for the use of font and images. I liked how the images and text appear the be cut out of paper and taped together rather carelessly. This would be very suitable for our magazine advertisement, as the tatty and torn appearance would fit very well with my party theme of both my album cover and music video, to allow for consistency. I also like how the background is patterned and very busy, something I would be keen on using on our advertisement. In addition to being combined with plain coloured text, this would allow our text to stand out firmly on the page and catch the readers eye whilst in a magazine.

Crystal Castles Album Magazine Advert

I have chosen this magazine advert as one of my inspirational texts mainly for its use of imagery and layout. I like how they have numerous images associated with the theme of the band and have overlapped them to create a type of collage, which is very unique and effective. I also like the layout with the image taking centre focal point within the advertisement, as this is the area which is most likely to attract the readers eye this will create more emphasis on the effect of the imagery.

Paramore - Riot! Album Back Cover

What I particularly like about this back cover is how the front cover background image is used again and the song titles are incorporated within the image. This adds a more stylistic and intriguing affect in comparison to plain titles placed against a plain background, which is usually used on most album back covers. This I would like to replicate in our album back cover, rather then using the typical conventions for a back cover, I would like the text to blend in with the image and stay consistent with the front cover and inside sleeve. 

Bon Jovi - Cross Road Back Cover

Similar to the Paramore Album back cover, I particularly like how the text is incorporated into the image, almost as if it is imprinted onto the wall Bon Jovi is leaning on. Again I would like to replicate this into our album back cover, as it creates more appealing and intriguing image for the viewer, and allows all aspects of the back cover to be consistent and tie in smoothly with one another. 

Unknown Band - Album Back Cover

What I particularly like about this album back cover, is the unique choice of font and layout for the song titles. This appears to look like a type writer font, with the use of black tape, which particularly looks like the tape which was often used on cassette tapes. Although we will not replicate this specifically, this has inspired us to create a more interesting back cover, with a more unique choice of font and layout.

Paramore - Uknown Album Inside Sleeve

What I particularly like about this album inside sleeve is the use of font and text, which are the lyrics to one of the songs. The text appears to be in handwriting and even has scribbles, almost like the plan for the song lyrics, which adds a more personal touch for the viewer, something which I would like to replicate in our album inside sleeve. 

Unknown Artist - Album Inside Sleeve

I really like this album inside sleeve, particularly for its realistic approach. The use of everyday items, seems more like a photograph, which I feel would be more relatable to the viewer, as it maybe items they use everyday. I would like to incorporate this style within our album inside sleeve, however with items such gig tickets and party photographs, in order to be relatable to our target audience and be consistent with the overall theme of our project. 

Charlie Mayfair - Unknown Album Inside Sleeve

Allow this may not necessarily be in keeping with our chosen theme, I like the use of font and background image used on this album inside sleeve. The font is very unique, appearing almost like handwriting, it stands out and catches the readers eye, which I would like to incorporate into our album inside sleeve. The background image is very intriguing, with an antique effect it makes the background almost appear like parchment paper, this effect I would like to somehow replicate in our album inside sleeve.

Pegasus Bridge - Ribena Album Cover

This is my favourite album cover and is my main inspiration, for our album cover. The layout is very minimalistic, which I would like to replicate as it is not too busy or over powering, which would be much more easy and appealing for the public to view. I like the image, which also appears to be very minimalistic, with no use of props or a busy background image which could distract from the band members. Instead we can see the band clearly, which allows the viewer to recognise and identify them clearly. I also like the colour and vintage effect which is applied to the image, which allows all aspects of the cover to to be consistent with one another and compliment each other really well.

All Time Low - Dirty Work Album Cover

My favourite part of this album cover is the layout, which is quite similar to the Pegaus Bridge album cover, with a minimalistic and typical layout placing the band image in the centre focal point and the band name at the top of the cover, which again is very appealing and easy on the eye. I also like the use of contrasting colour, with the image of the band members and the title placed in black and white, whilst the background is placed in a bold red colour, to allow the black and white aspects to stand out. I also like the use of body language and props used in the image of the band members, which I would like to replicate in our album cover, allowing the album cover to stay consistent with the party theme of the music promo video. 

You Me At Six Photo Shoot

Allow this is not an album cover, I particularly like this image which I would like to take as inspiration for the central image of the band which will be used on our album cover. The image features what appears to be the aftermath of a party, therefore not only will it be appealing to our 16-25 year old target audience, but it would also be consistent with the party theme of our music promo video. 

Inspirations For Music Promo Video

All the video inspirations which I have chosen below follow a consistent theme, of centring on or being related to a party, which we would particularly like to use within our music promo video. However I have chosen each video for a different specific reason, such as unique editing and camera work. 

You Me At Six - Gossip

Specifically what I liked about this video, was the choice of camera work and shots. Firstly the video appears to be shot using a fish eye lens to add a creative, artistic flair to the video. Unlike other music videos, the band members create the music video by holding the camera in front of them, themselves. This adds a sense of realism as the camera work is jerky and unsteady by moving along with them, you somewhat experience what they are experiencing. 

Travie McCoy - We'll Be Alright 

Along with the party theme, I particularly liked the editing used at the beginning of this video, which displays people getting out of a car one by one entering the party. However the scene is cut after each person, and pieced together simultaneously. Allowing it to appear as if the people are getting out in one continuous line, out the back of a small car. This technique we would particularly like to use in our music promo video.   

Hadouken - Liquid Lives

What I particularly liked about this music video was the camera work. This is created by attaching the camera to bands instruments. This creates a sense of realism, as you appear to me moving along with the band, furthermore moving along in time with the music, which increasingly emphasises the beat of the song and  makes it more catchy to the audience. I also liked the use of neon paint, particularly the lyrics to the song, which can be seen spray painted and glowing throughout the entire video, which adds a sense of continuous recognition, ensuring the audience will remember the name of the song or the band easily. 

Skins USA Reversed Trailer 

I feel this video is one of my main inspirations for my music promo video. What particularly stood out in the video was the editing. The entire video is played in reverse, beginning at the aftermath of the party playing backwards to before the party, which provokes more response from the viewer, as they are intrigued to find out what lead up to these events. This reverse effect, we would definitely like to use in our music promo video. I also like the zoom blur camera effect which is used as the teenagers are drinking, to emphasise the intoxication of the teens, by altering your vision too.
